CG Thermal Awarded United States Patent for Dual Fluoropolymer Tubesheet

United States Patent on XD Tubesheet

CG Thermal awarded a United States Patent on the revolutionary XD tubesheet

To start 2023, CG Thermal has been awarded a patent by the United States Patent & Trademark Office for an innovative tube sheet design. This revolutionary technology allows a highly corrosion-resistant heat exchanger in larger diameters than previously possible. The XD tubesheet allows for using the proven Umax Advanced Ceramic shell and tube design for larger applications that previously relied on technologies with lesser corrosion resistance.

The XD joins the family of Umax tube sheets in which each tube is independently sealed to the tubesheet with a self-contained elastomeric sealing system. This allows for excellent thermal shock resistance, ease of maintenance, and ability for on-site repairs. Not only does this minimize impact on production, but it enhances the overall system safety and reliability by allowing maintenance and repairs to be addressed in a more timely manner.

“Over the last 25 years, our Umax Advanced Ceramic heat exchanger technology has proven to be a valuable resource in the corrosive processes we serve, including metal processing, chemical etching, bromine production, and sulfuric acid dilution to name a few. Based on these successes, our customers continued to request higher operating pressures and temperatures, along with increased size capabilities. This was the driving force behind the XD tubesheet innovation and patent.” -Greg Becherer, Senior Vice President

SiC Umax Advanced Ceramic Heat Exchanger

SiC Umax Advanced Ceramic heat exchangerThe Umax Advanced Ceramic heat exchanger combines a shell-and-tube design with alpha sintered silicon carbide ceramic tubes using a highly engineered individual tube sealing system coupled with PTFE tube sheets. This results in a durable and innovative product that can perform across a broad range of environments. These units are inherently universally resistant to corrosion, erosion, and thermal shock due to their exceptional strength properties, extreme hardness, and lack of free silicon. With the addition of the United States Patented XD tubesheet, the Umax SIC Ceramic shell and tube heat exchanger can now serve larger process loads and be designed for pressures up to 150 psig at 400F.

Some of the key features include:

  • Exceptional strength, durability, and service life
  • Superior corrosion and erosion resistance
  • Low fouling
  • Low maintenance costs
  • Excellent thermal conductivity and superior heat transfer efficiency
  • Thermal shock resistance
  • CG Thermal’s proprietary self-contained elastomeric sealing system
  • Completely field-repairable with common tools
