Process Vessels and Columns

Industrial sectors from chemical and petrochemical to agriculture and fertilizer manufacturing rely on well-designed processing equipment for safe, efficient operations. At CG Thermal LLC, we provide comprehensive solutions in the form of essential heat exchangers and chemical processing equipment to our diverse customer base. Our capabilities for customization allow us to build high-performance equipment with a variety of materials, components, pressure, and temperature options to suit the specific needs of your application and your facility. Learn more about three categories of our custom-designed process equipment—columns, drying beds, and process vessels—and what they have to offer your business.

Safety and Reliability

We engineer our process vessels and columns to function safely at their required pressure and within the least-aggressive temperature range possible. To choose the appropriate design, we draw from our extensive knowledge of heat and mass transfer to meet your process specifications and exceed your expectations. We have the in-house experience and global partnerships to effectively choose and supply construction materials that best fulfill your requirements while balancing the importance of budget and a material’s operational life cycle. Our product designs adhere to all relevant industry codes and regulations, including ASME and RTP standards, and undergo rigorous testing to ensure they meet our internal quality fabrication standards as well.

Columns

At CG Thermal, our design capabilities, along with our mass transfer expertise and equilibrium database access, enable us to offer trays, packed, or combination columns to improve component separation, and we offer atmospheric, vacuum, or positive pressure varieties. Our columns have applications in:

  • Gas absorption. Columns can facilitate the absorption of a gas by utilizing a liquid.
  • Gas scrubbing. This is the process of absorbing a gas with a liquid with the specific purpose of protecting the environment.
  • Tails tower. A scrubber following the primary absorber of an HCl system, a tails tower absorbs liquid as water and sends bottoms to the main absorber.
  • Liquid stripping. Liquid stripping involves removing dissolved gas from a liquid using a gas.
  • Distillation. This process is the separation of substances via their volatility differences.
  • HCl desorber. This distillation tower separates HCl gas from concentrated HCl.
  • Azeotrope breaker. These breakers remove HCl gas from diluted HCl below the azeotrope point using two distillation columns set at dissimilar pressures. The vacuum tower holds pure water distillate, and the pressure tower contains HCl gas distillate.

Our columns’ internals utilizes materials such as Hastelloy, fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP), polypropylene (PP), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), or graphite, which is the most common. Replacement graphite internals and liners are available through CG Thermal. Construction materials for corrosive and severe streams include:

  • Glass lining
  • Fluoropolymer lining
  • FRP
  • Rubber-lined steel
  • Stainless steel
  • Drying Beds

CG Thermal can provide any of the following drying bed varieties based on system requirements and customers’ goals and preferences:

  • Desiccant
  • Molecular sieve
  • Sulphuric acid

Process Vessels

With vast experience in heat and mass transfer, process simulation, and equilibrium, we custom-design our vessels to the specific requirements of the processing system to which they will contribute materials of construction, geometry, and connection size and location among others are given close consideration when designing any of the following vessels:

  • Reactors
  • Flash drums
  • Contact condensers
  • Level drums
  • Knock-out drums
  • Fluoropolymer-lined storage tanks

We provide fluoropolymer-lined storage containers, and in our designs, we consider the fluid composition, geometry, temperature, and pressure involved before selecting the ideal material and deciding on which lining technique to use. Our lined tanks range in size from 20 to 40 gallons and are used for pump priming, filtration, and water treatment. We manufacture them for atmospheric, vacuum, or positive pressure conditions. The team at CG Thermal offers short lead times on our process vessels, and we are flexible in terms of the quantity, size, and position of the connections. We can also make vessels with custom dimensions, connections with options for size and location, and your preferred construction materials.
